Zenith Associate Conductor
Susan Mutter began studying the Horn at age 10.
Her primary teachers were Dale Clevenger and Philip Farkas of the Chicago Symphony.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s
degree in Horn Performance. She has performed with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Italy, the Hong Kong
Philharmonic, the Columbus Symphony, the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra, and
the Detroit Symphony, including tours to Japan and Florida.
She served on the
brass faculty of Wayne State University for years and teaches both horn and
piano privately. She was awarded 4th
place in the National Brass Competition.
She has also conducted various local groups in recent years and is currently studying
conducting with Thomas Wilkins, the Resident Conductor of the DSO.
She is thrilled to have the chance to work with these fine young artists
in the Zenith Brass Ensemble. She resides in Troy with her husband, Mark and their three children.
